Dee Smith
GUI Designs

Dee Smith has been an artist since she reached the age of being able to hold a crayon. While her early works would be descried as "scribble," she has come a long way. Attending Temple University main campus in the early 80's and earning her BA in Fine Art she began her career as a "cityscape" pastel artist. Many of the works created in this medium since have been shown and sold throughout her career.

In recent years she began to explore the multi-dimensional experience of mixed-media art. Living her early adult years in Philadelphia, PA she was influenced by the urban neighborhoods. While most of her contemporaries were transferring their emotional experiences into their work, Dee's work captured what she saw. "would never have expected such a change in my work because I was often chided by my artist friends for being such a 'realist'" Dee said. "However all of those years being around those multi-media and sculpture artists eventually had an effect."

Current creations are a mixture of Fine Art and Craft alike and are very much a personal reflection of a multi-dimensional past, a very dynamic present, living near Washington, D.C. and her professional career as a web user interface designer.

"My world is filled with high impact imagery, it's in your face, and then it's gone. What I see emerging in my pieces is the attempt to capture and hold still environment moods, using color; social trends, using a mixture of mediums; and design and fashion styles using texture and attached objects," Dee said. "With so much intensity and transitory movement, I really enjoy creating these "tangible windows" of the world I experience."
